WATCH: Sir Alex Ferguson Reveals Why He Was Unsuccessful Signing Paolo Maldini

It can be argued that Sir. Alex Ferguson is the most successful manager in football history. With nearly 40 trophies accumulated during his 27 year spell at Old Trafford the former Manchester United boss has permanently written his name into the football history books.

He didn’t do it alone though. During that near three decade reign in Manchester the Scot had plenty of help along the way and mostly from his spectacular array of players throughout the years.

Fergie managed some of the best players around and also signed some of the best players but he wasn’t always successful.

During a Q&A session with AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini, Ferguson revealed he tried to sign the Italian defender once but to no avail, and it was all thanks to Maldini’s father and his family history.

Maldini went on to play 647 games for Milan scoring 29 goals in his 24 year career and it’s all because of what his father had to say to Sir. Alex when he tried to sign his son.
