Check out this clip of former Manchester United manager Sir.Alex Ferguson explaining why Paul Gascoigne didn’t end up at Old Trafford.
Ferguson had approached Gascoigne about joining United and Gazza assured the Scot that he’d be signing and told Fergie to go and enjoy his holidays and he’ll see him when he got back.
“We spoke to him the night before I went on holiday. He says ‘Go and enjoy yourself Mr Ferguson, I’ll be signing for Manchester United’.
Unfortunately for Ferguson, Tottenham approached Gascoigne while he was away and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse which ultimately ended up with him signing for Spurs.
Apparently Sir.Alex didn’t talk to Gazza for 6 years after this and to this day he wished he had signed him.
“Alan Shearer is one I wish I’d signed, but for me the most disappointing of all was Paul Gascoigne.” said Ferguson.
