There Were Two Major Events Happened On This Day In English Football

Today marks the anniversary of two major events in football history involving two major English clubs.

Firstly, on this day (May 19th) in 2012 Chelsea clinched their first Champions League title after beating Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties.

The game finished 1-1 with Bayern’s Thomas Muller and Chelsea’s Didier Drogba putting themselves on the scoresheet before playing a scoreless 30 minutes of extra-time.

Drogba would prove to be the hero in the end scoring the winning penalty and securing Chelsea’s first European trophy since 1998.

The second significant event that occurred on May 19th happened in 2013 when Manchester United and West Brom played a 5-5 thriller on the last day of the Premier League season.

United were crowned champions on this day also which what was Sir.Alex Ferguson’s 1,500th and final game as Manchester United manager.

Nearly 10,000 days since his first match in charge of United, a 2-0 defeat against Oxford United, Ferguson took his place in the dugout for the final time after players from both sides had formed a guard of honour.
