The Discovery Channel has announced that multiple Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps will race against a great white shark as part of its ‘Shark Week’ schedule this year.
The event Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White will air on Sunday, July 23 at 8pm but it’s unclear what format the race will take.
Currently the event is the most one-sided competition in history with the fastest Phelps ever swimming being 6 miles per hour compared to the 25 miles per hour a Great White can swim in open water.
We’re assuming there’s going to be some form of handicap otherwise there is absolutely no way Phelps can beat a shark in an open competition.
Either way we’ll be sure to tune in to see the race which is a first of it’s kind and also to see if Phelps gets eaten…just kidding!
