Philippe Coutinho may be applying for a Portuguese passport to free up space for the signing of Brazilian ace Arthur Melo.
Barcelona signed Coutinho from Liverpool in January as well as Colombian defender Yerry Mina which has filled up the clubs quota of non-EU players.
Ernesto Valverde remains eager to sign Melo but he’ll be competing with Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United who have also shown interest.
If Coutinho gets a Portuguese passport it’ll free up a spot for another non-EU player paving the way for Arthur to sign for the Barca.
When asked about the possibility of obtaining a Portuguese passport Coutinho said “Yes, I can get citizenship through my wife.”
